PONDS

Ponds of all sizes and shapes contain unique complexities and fine balances. Depending upon their ultimate purposes, they may include shallow wetlands, swamps, and bayous - all supporting a fine balance between nutrient producers and nutrient consumers. They generate their own vegetation and represent an entirely separate, self-contained ecological system. With time, they eventually evolve into either a liability or an asset depending upon the steward’s understanding, commitment, and applied maintenance. John’s ultimate goal for his installations is self-sustainment with no outside energy sources (generally electricity to pump water and/or air) and constant labor.

Other than water just filling a hole in the ground, careful planning eliminates many potential problems. Variables include location, soil, water sources, size, shape, depths, levees, controlled outflows at various heights and controlled over-flows, pond habitat and, lastly, legal responsibilities. John specializes in ponds less than an acre in size with decorative, nutrient consuming flora on floating wetlands for self-sustainment. He also assists designs and installations of ponds greater than one acre.

John provides both a free evaluation and a written cost proposal for your pond projects.
